MOL Mauritius International Fund for Natural Environment Recovery and Sustainability:
Workshop on Coral Reef and Biodiversity Under Climate Change is held

On Monday September 9, 2024, Shizuoka University, which received a grant from the MOL Mauritius International Fund for Natural Environment Recovery and Sustainability (the "Fund) (Note 1), along with its collaborating institution, the University of Mauritius (UoM), held a research presentation on "Coral Reef and its Associated Biodiversity Under Climate Change" for Hotel staff from sunlife Ltd., local students, and researchers who gathered at the Hotel of sunlife Group in the eastern part of the island.
The day's speakers included Associate Professor Dr. Preethee GONPOT Dean of Faculty of Science, Professor Ranjeet BHAGOOLI, and Dr. Deepeeka KAULLYSING from UoM, Professor Beatriz E. Casareto and Professor Yoshimi Suzuki from Shizuoka University, and Dr. Arvind GOPEECHUND from the Biodiversity and Environment Institute (BEI) (Note 2), a local NGO working in collaboration with UoM. They gave a lecture on coral living in and around Mauritius based on the latest research results and on coral species that are thermally resistant to climate change. They also emphasized the significance of coral reefs in biodiversity while explaining appropriate protection and conservation methods for these reefs. The event also included a lively question-and-answer session.
